Remember to Laugh
Walk With Me, Parenting March 12th, 2008A few days ago, my family and I were having dinner at one of our favorite spots, when suddenly our two youngest children just started telling jokes. They were relentless. For about 10 minutes, they hit us with a barrage of jokes, until they got to one that made us really laugh. At that point, they seemed satisfied, and simply turned their attention to their meal and more general conversation. My husband and I looked at each other sort of puzzled, both of thinking, “What was that all about?” It seemed as if we were attacked by the joke squad. Not really thinking too much more of it, we finished our dinner and headed home. The next morning, as I got out of bed, I heard the words, “remember to laugh.” As the morning went on, I couldn’t get those words out of my head and as I thought about it a little more I realized that my son and daughter (the instruments of God that they are :)) had really ushered us into a God moment. You know, one of those unique times where God helps us by meeting a need we don’t even know we have. He loves us so much that even in our service to him and the business of life, he wants us to enjoy the moments.
Today as I return to this blog space after a little hiatus, I remind you to remember to laugh. Don’t forget, in the busyness and business of your life, to fully inhale and embrace the beauty of living and the love that is given to you.
Enjoy your day and be blessed.

Pastor Cade,
It’s a wonderful feeling to share laughter with your family. As I read the blog pertaining to your topic remember to laugh, I had to laugh. That laugh brought back many wonderful memories regarding my two young adults now. God can use our kids in so many ways to reach the hearts of the parents and one way of using them for sure is through laughter. Although they are grown and on their own this will never decrease my laughter and when I talk to them on the phone there is still laughter and joy.
One day during the summer of last year I was backing my car into the drive way, and looking through my side mirror I notice something on the pavement. I stop the car away from the object then got out the car in looked down and there was a baby bird it had falling from somewhere. I looked up in the tree near the fall and I didn’t see a nest anywhere. I listen for the sound of other birds but couldn’t hear anything. I called out to my husband. He got a box and put some shredded paper inside. My husband put the bird inside the box then took it up stairs and placed the box on the balcony. I was hoping and praying that no cat would be coming around. I checked on the bird before going to bed that night and the bird was barely moving. We then placed some milk on its beak until some actually went inside his mouth.
The next morning the bird was still weak and my husband gave it a little more milk before leaving for work. By the time I got home from work, and the second I got out of the car; my husband yelled for me to come see the bird. What a wonderful sight! I was so happy to see that the bird hopped out of the box and was on the other side of the balcony. We put the bird back in the box for the duration of that night and the next day my joy and my happiness turned into laughter because the bird was on the edge of the balcony looking out. The third and final day I couldn’t wait to get home and witness what the bird was up too, but to my dismay, when I got home the bird had flown away. There was no sadness only laughter because the bird was able to gain the strength that was needed to fly away into God’s creation. Laughter is good for the soul and it’s something that God wants each of His children to experience and keep with us for the duration of our lives.
What a wonderful feeling to laugh!
Blessings to you and your family,
Sis Linda

There have been times, I must admit that I was so caught up in living that I forgot to live. So busy with running the children to all of their activities, taking care of the needs in our home, and serving others that I would forget to just stop, take a breath, and really look around. God has indeed supplied us with all we need. Yes I thank God for what He has given us in the natural, but I praise Him for what He has given us in the spirit. Now I know that He wants me to enjoy all that He has given me and in order to do that I must live. I don’t ask why He did it because the reason is so simple. He loves me.

Yesterday I was talking to my 15 year old neice McKenzie. We talked and joked about a few things and then I brought up a situation that occurred when she was 8-9 years old. I said,”Remember that time we were lost in DC?” No, she replied. I said “Don’t you remember when we were going to see your cousins (my granddaughters) and I kept riding up and down South Capitol St?” “Yes, she said, but I didn’t know we were lost.” Well the point I was making was sidetracked by the fact that the child ‘trusted’ me to take care of her. She kept playing with her dolls on the back seat and said,”Aunt Lynn, when we pass by that McDonalds again, can we eat?”
I was floored and ashamed cause I thought the child knew we were lost! I busted myself, the perfect Aunt Lynn :(!
We both laughed til we cried. You are so right,it really is a pleasure to be able to share a laugh. What a beautiful blessing, what a wonderful use of tears, it makes the journey lighter. Thank you Lord.

Thanks pastor for sharing with us the little insights of rememberance to keep us in laughter with our faith. I appreciate this message to beseech us to live laugh learn and love throughout our walk of faith. I beleive so many beleivers forget to laugh and become so spiritual bound that they’re no earthly good! I remember the small times Devin used to crack me up just holding a conversation about her and Darius’s school week. Kids are so cool and fun to be around! Especially your’s!

Pastor Cade,
It is such an honor to be able read your blog and know that when you mention…”Don’t forget, in the busyness and business of your life, to fully inhale and embrace the beauty of living and the love that is given to you.” reminded me of the dream I had of you. I shared the dream with you during the womens retreat that you held in Vicenza this past summer. My dream was that you were standing on my terrace with your eyes shut, your hair blowing in the wind, you were breathing in the cool breeze that was going by and you were just taking time to enjoy the glory of God that surrounded you. You have been such an inspiration to me. You are continuously in my prayers, continue in your obedience to the Lord for you have blessed so many. I am a mother of 3 little ones and it is so easy to get wrapped up in the busyness of life but my kids are such a blessing, especially when times get rough, they always have a way of making me laugh. I love my God, I love you and I thank God for you!

Pastor Cade, it was so good to hear your story. There are many times in our busy lives that we tend to laugh. I was so caught up in making everyone else happy, I forgot about myself. I am laughung now and it feels good. Thank you..
